Irish Sailing have issued the following invitation to their EGM to all members. ICC members are members of IS through their own Yacht or Sailing Clubs and not through the ICC. However, as the communication channels of IS to its members it terrible at best, your committee has asked that we post the following for your reference:
Irish Sailing Proposes Modernisation and Membership Reform to Support Growth (Article 1 of 4)
Irish Sailing has undertaken a comprehensive review of its membership subscription policy, as well as its related systems and processes and the evolving needs of the sport, club management and members.
Irish Sailing is putting forward a proposal to its members aimed at modernising how the sport is administered and funded, ensuring a stronger foundation for growth and more effective delivery of services across the sailing community.
In order to make these proposed changes easier to understand for our members we have created a short series of articles focusing on a number of aspects of the proposals.
Part of this review includes an amendment to the current Constitution. We have broken down this element in a brief article below. You can also download the article HERE.
An Outline of the Proposed Constitutional Change
Constitution
- Constitution is to be corrected and amended in 2025 to reflect how we have formally operated in the past and operate today, in practice, day to day:
- All members of Category 1 clubs will be members of Irish Sailing.
- Club members will become ‘Affiliated Personal Members’.
- Board given authority to refund duplicate membership fees (membership of more than one club).
- Voting structure of clubs remain unchanged, voting with the total number of declared members.
- The change in the constitution is required to correct the 2016 constitution and enable the implementation of the Member Management System in a legally compliant way (GDPR).
Through these updates, Irish Sailing aims to create a more streamlined and transparent membership structure, improve administrative efficiency, and strengthen its capacity to support clubs, sailors, and the growth of the sport nationwide.
Irish Sailing, as the National Governing Body created by and for clubs and the sport, is committed to investing in its infrastructure, governance, and data systems to support the sustainable growth of our sport whilst complying with Sport Ireland.
The goal is a stronger, smarter, more connected organisation.
